Turtle Ridge Compost is here to protect the balance of nature. We transform your compostable food waste into high quality, nutrient rich soil. We achieve this through a centuries old proven process, with modern curbside simplicity. A significant amount of waste going to landfills can be recycled into high quality soil. Our focus is to empower, engage, and educate our community and neighbors to compost sustainably.
Meet us
Hello! I’m Cindy, Turtle Ridge property owner along with my husband Tom. We are engineers and business people by trade, as well as nature enthusiasts at heart. We fell in love with Southwest Michigan over 20 years ago and over time it became our home and the place we raised our family. We are privileged to call home a thriving community of small businesses and farmers. Turtle Ridge is named after the many box turtles we discovered while clearing the trails on the property.
The journey to compost
Turtle Ridge is a dream that I crafted over twenty some years. Over time, I learned the value of living on and off the property and the lessons from reusing what we have. After working in the corporate world for so long, I rediscovered my passion for gardening and being in nature. The pandemic gave us the time to enjoy the farm, eat healthy, cook again, and we began to compost from our own kitchen. Growing up in Canada, this process came natural to me as it is commonplace in other areas of the world. As with any female community, word spread, and a need was born for curbside compost pickup.
Empowering women
We are multitaskers, artisans, amazing business people...we are women. Research shows that women will spend up to 90% of their income on health, nutrition, and education for their families. Our business specifically attempts to help women create a better world for their families by making it as easy as possible with curbside service. Don’t worry guys, we pick up from you too!
Transforming our community
Each bucket of compost we create from your compostable food waste is another solution to reducing landfill waste and decreasing our carbon footprint. I care about the future of our planet and the soil that our food grows in. We make dirt and hope to enrich Southwest Michigan by providing our customers with a connection to the ecology of our local environment. I want to give back and share the soil wealth with our members. We are developing a compost give back program and will be excited to share in the near future. The future of the soil you grow your food in depends on composting now.
